A Few Days at la Villa Sauvageonne

This is the third year we've been discovering the South of France through the eyes of Gérard Bertrand.

Over the years, we've wandered through vineyards, uncovered hidden corners of the Languedoc and immersed ourselves in a way of life deeply rooted in the Mediterranean. Perhaps that's why we keep coming back: every visit feels like a new invitation to experience the region through its landscapes, gastronomy and traditions.

This time, our journey brought us to Villa Le Sauvageonne, Gérard Bertrand's brand-new villa, nestled among vineyards, olive groves and the rolling hills of southern France.

A Home Away From Home

We visited la Villa Sauvageonne at the beginning of summer. The first grapes were just starting to appear on the vines, and the surrounding landscape invited us to slow down and embrace the rhythm of southern France.

What struck us most was the feeling of comfort. While la Villa Sauvageonne offers all the amenities one could expect from a luxury stay, it never feels formal or intimidating. Instead, it feels like a home: warm, welcoming and designed to be lived in. The kind of place where you instantly leave your shoes by the door and settle into a slower pace of life.

The villa features 10 beautifully appointed bedrooms, making it ideal for gathering with family or friends. Recently renovated, the property strikes a beautiful balance between old and new. Contemporary comforts sit alongside natural materials, local craftsmanship and a design that feels deeply connected to the landscape. Despite its size, the villa remains intimate, welcoming and effortlessly relaxed.

Surrounded by Vineyards, Olive Groves and Mountains

One of the things we loved most about la Villa Sauvageonne is its setting.

Outside, vineyards stretch across the hillsides, olive trees dot the landscape, and the mountains of the Languedoc rise in the distance. Whether enjoying a quiet morning coffee, a long lunch on the terrace or a swim overlooking the vines, nature is never far away.

It's the kind of scenery that naturally encourages you to slow down. The soundtrack of singing cicadas, the scent of Mediterranean vegetation and the ever-changing colours of the landscape become part of everyday life.

And just a few metres from the villa, one of Gérard Bertrand's wineries sits among the vineyards. Seeing where the wines are produced, surrounded by the very landscape that gives them life, adds a special sense of place to the experience.

The Mediterranean Way of Living

As always, what we love most about travelling through the Mediterranean is not simply discovering beautiful places, but experiencing the culture that surrounds them. Here, wine is not just something you drink; it is part of the landscape, the history and the rhythm of daily life.

Days at la Villa Sauvageonne unfold naturally. Mornings are slow, afternoons stretch between the pool and long meals shared outdoors, and evenings are spent around the table enjoying local wines as the sun sets behind the hills.

La Villa Sauvageonne embodies something we are always searching for in our travels: authenticity. Not luxury in the traditional sense, but the luxury of space, silence, good company and time well spent.
